    Birth: Noah

Sunday, February 12, 2017 ~ Halifax Health, Daytona Beach, FL ~ Birth: Noah

Sweet Noah was due on Valentine’s Day, but came 2 days early, to his Mama’s overwhelming joy and ours too!!
I’d gotten a text at 10:30pm Saturday night from my best friend Tricia who was the doula for our sweet client,
Brittany, saying “I’ll call you in a little bit.”. Instantly my heart started beating fast. Something was up.

Sure enough, Brittany’s water had broken and she was heading into the hospital. I wanted to come right away,
but Tricia being ever so wise, headed me off and said she’d call when she was farther along, as she was with Brittany at the hospital (if you want a doula, seriously, hire Tricia). So we texted all through Saturday night into Sunday morning, and then Sunday afternoon I headed up to Daytona Beach.

I walked around the beautiful Halifax Health campus that reminded me SO much of St. Augustine architecture (LOVE). It was a cool, crisp and windy day, and there wasn’t a cloud in sight in the bright blue sky.

Soon after, I headed up to the labor & delivery floor, and got right to work shooting photos of the evening Noah was born. Noah arrived at 7:08pm: tiny, perfect, beautiful, and surrounded by joyful excitement. His Mama was a warrior!! There is nothing like a Mama seeing her baby’s face for the first time and tearily crying: “Oh my sweet sweet boy!”. Welcome, Noah, your Mama loves you so very very much.

Brittany, I didn’t know it was possible for me to be SO PROUD of someone I barely knew. But I am.
Congratulations on the birth of your precious boy! Thank you for allowing me the honor to document it for you!

    Newborn Session: Lily Evangeline

Just 6 days after Lily was born, I returned to their beautiful little house to shoot her newborn session
as well as little family pictures of Emily and her little women. Plus I got to snuggle Lily, so I was like…the
happiest photographer on the planet. I LOVE every session I shoot for Emily, and this one is no different!
Such beautiful little girls, and so so much love in this family. The cuteness just kills me!

Lily loves the song “You Are My Sunshine”, and so appropriately, God blessed us with a beautiful golden hour,
filled with sunflare and precious sweetness. Emily, you’re a beautiful and amazing Mom! Love you all so much!

28 weeks pregnant from Emily’s mini maternity session, and 6 days old with Lily!

  • Birth: Lily Evangeline

    Birth: Lily Evangeline

January 17, 2017 ~ DeLand, FL ~ Birth: Lily Evangeline

Months before, when my best friend Emily wrote me asking me to shoot birth photos for her…I burst into
happy tears. It has been my dream for the past 2 years to shoot a birth, and it’s never happened! So the last few months of 2016, I spent hours upon hours reading birth photographer tips, watching birth videos on youtube (& bawling), staring at endless birth photos, and obsessing over what went in my go bag.

Because we were best friends, I was on call for what seemed like…forever. Instead of the usual 3-4 weeks,
I was on call for 5 weeks over Christmas. Every time the phone rang or a text buzzed late at night, my heart rate spiked. I was in tune with every message and every feeling. I lost my mind, basically, for weeks.
But it seemed…..Lily would just take her time and enjoy her womb life, hahaha.

Until one early Tuesday morning on January 17th at 5:55am when my phone rang,
and I sprang out of bed trying to find the light switch in the dark. It was Tricia, her doula & sister in law.
“Birth is imminent.” she said quietly. “Imminent?! HOW imminent.” I asked as I tried to regain air in my
lungs and remember if imminent meant what I thought it meant in 6th grade, which was “NOW”.

6:25am I’m out the door. I run to my car, throw all my gear and go bag in it, and hit the road.
6:30am, I’m about to pull onto the highway and I get a second call. My heart drops. “This can’t be good.”

It was Tricia again: “How fast can you get here? Karen (the midwife) just got here. She’s a 8(cm).”
Tears flooded my eyes as I resigned myself to the fact that I just got the call that I would miss Lily’s birth.
I told her “At the best….in 45 minutes. It takes me a full hour.” There was a little silence, then Tricia’s
steady voice: “Do what you have to do.” I flipped shut the phone, and floored it while praying: “Dear Jesus.
If You want me at Lily’s birth, please get me there in time. And please keep all the cops away
from this road because I’m going to do everything I can to get there. Please let me make it.”

And with that, I turned on my worship music….aaaaannnd broke every speed limit there was. 😉

I got there in 35 minutes flat.

1 hr and 10 minutes later, at 8:15am on her due date, Lily Evangeline was born.
There was fog lifting off the lake and pink wisps in the brightening sky above. The whole world seemed hushed. Lily Evangeline arrived with the dawn. Her Mother caught her and lifted her onto her chest
to the cheers of the 5 women in the room, and then….Lily let out her first strong cry.
She’ll be like her Mother, strong and brave, and beautiful.

I can’t put into words the honor and privilege it was to be present at Lily’s birth, or what it was like to
cheer on my best friend being so strong and courageous and determined amidst pain. It was magic and glory.
It was full of purpose, full of real life agony; beauty and tears and centuries of women cheering on their own,
hands reaching out, a baby truly being seen for the first time and rejoicing with the very first cry. I’ve never been so confident in my life about doing something than photographing those hours of labor & birth.

Welcome to the world, Lily. You are so very loved.

  • Newborn Session: Asher Burnett

    Newborn Session: Asher Burnett

April 2, 2016 ~ Mims, Florida ~ Newborn Session: Asher Burnett

    World, meet Asher Burnett Flake.DSC_1632

“For this child I prayed.” (1 Samuel 1:27) I, Jean Marie. Seriously. Literally. Prayed.

For about a year, I prayed for a third little one to grace the home and arms of Charles & Ashley.
I never told her. Until one August 2015 day, when she announced the happy news. I screamed A LOT.

Screen Shot 2016-05-08 at 1.30.06 AMScreen Shot 2016-05-08 at 1.30.35 AMand I continued to pray. Then I went to China and photographed a bunch of adorable Chinese babies,
and a few weeks after Asher was born, I went over to their house and took newborn photos of him.

Meeting him was….precious. I was breathless at the sight of him. I cradled him in tears. It’s a feeling like none other when you hold new life in your arms, especially new life you’ve prayed so much for, and is really, truly, here!!! He is a gift and a joy. I refused to narrow down these photos toooo much, because he is just. that. sweet. So enjoy this look into what several weeks old life of Asher Burnett looks like.

Flake family – Congratulations on your beautiful little son. May he grow to be strong and kind and gentle.
May he love baseball. May he grow to know the deep love of the Father. May he know prayers matter to Jesus.

Welcome, sweet little Asher Burnett. I’m so glad you came.

     Happy Mother’s Day to all the Mothers!!! You are amazing and beautiful. DSC_1583DSC_1582 DSC_1589_Stomp DSC_1591DSC_1597AsherNewbornApril2016-25_Stomp DSC_1617 DSC_1621 DSC_1625DSC_1636 DSC_1639 DSC_1641 DSC_1645 DSC_1649 DSC_1653

We took an afternoon break after the newborn session for Addison’s & Ethan’s baseball games,
which I joyfully attended (because real life is way more fun that way), fixed my parents a taco lunch,
and came back at 3pm for family photos with little Asher. So easy and a delight!

  • Newborn Session: Mila

    Newborn Session: Mila

August 11, 2015 ~ Titusville, FL ~ Newborn Session: Mila

I had the honor and joy of shooting 5 week old Mila’s newborn session at her home, with her parents.
It was such a laid back and relaxed morning, which is exactly what I love for newborn sessions!

    Mila is soo precious and I adore these photos!! DSC_2028 DSC_2018DSC_2042 DSC_2082 DSC_2108DSC_2066 DSC_2114 DSC_2133 DSC_2118 DSC_2121 DSC_2127 DSC_2139 DSC_2146 DSC_2150_Stomp DSC_2153 DSC_2157 DSC_2163 DSC_2166 DSC_2167 DSC_2169 DSC_2174 DSC_2178 DSC_2182_Stomp DSC_2191 DSC_2194

I came around the corner and took this picture through the doorway of Tina cradling Mila in her nursery.
I haven’t known Tina very long, I only knew her the last few months of her pregnancy; our church heard the announcement Mila was born, and then a few Sundays later, Tina showed up with Mila.

It was like she just effortlessly slipped into being a Mother, like she’d always been subconsciously waiting
for this moment. I remarked so to Tina, and said “I know it hasn’t been easy!!”. When has being a First
Time Mother ever been easy?? But it fit her so well. Tina is so laid back, so calm, so in love with Brandon.
They cradle Mila with the sweet calm of all being right in their little world.

    Because she’s here.DSC_2199 DSC_2205 DSC_2222 DSC_2228_Stomp

    DSC_2213 DSC_2233 DSC_2237 DSC_2241 DSC_2246 DSC_2253 DSC_2254DSC_2285 DSC_2289 DSC_2293

Brandon was such a delight to meet. I could hear him singing from the other room, I remarked
to Tina “Is he always singing like this?” and she said “Oh yes, he loves it.”. What a cheerful trait!
    He’s tall. And strong. And Mila rests comfortably, trustingly, at peace in his arms.DSC_2302 DSC_2318 DSC_2320_Stomp DSC_2331 DSC_2348 DSC_2350 DSC_2353 DSC_2357 DSC_2359 DSC_2364

I don’t think I’ve ever photographed a couple more in love…..while at a newborn session.
Brandon makes Tina laugh all.the.time., and she turns around and looks at him like this.
It’s enough to make a sentimental photographer burst into happy tears.DSC_2366

We shot the last part of their session outdoors, in the shade of a beautiful oak tree,
on the hammock Brandon bought at Christmas and put up for Tina.
    So this whole session basically made my week. Soooo pretty. DSC_2374 DSC_2376 DSC_2380 DSC_2386_Stomp DSC_2391 DSC_2394_Stomp DSC_2401_Stomp DSC_2403_Stomp DSC_2424 DSC_2429 DSC_2432 DSC_2434 DSC_2440 DSC_2441 DSC_2442 DSC_2444 DSC_2445 DSC_2465_Stomp

The contrast in this picture makes me laugh, and also say “Aww.”.
Brandon all dressed in his Steeler fan clothes, tall, built like a tank….
changing his little baby girl’s dress, from purple lace to Steeler onesie.
Big hands, gentle with the tenderness of love, fastening tiny snaps on his tiny daughter.DSC_2470 DSC_2472

    Steeler Family.DSC_2477 DSC_2484 DSC_2486 DSC_2487 DSC_2491 DSC_2492 DSC_2493

Mila, you are so very adored. Your family is so glad you are here. Brandon & Tina, thank you so much for the joy of this day, and the laughter and conversations!! I LOVE these pictures, and loved getting to know you more!! Congratulations on your sweet baby girl.

  • Newborn Session: Elizabeth Benton

    Newborn Session: Elizabeth Benton

Sweet Miss Elizabeth was born several weeks early, weighing in at just 6lbs. 3oz. She was
SO incredibly tiny, precious, and beautiful. I was overjoyed to shoot this newborn lifestyle session
at the Benton’s gorgeous (& perfectly studio-like) home.
    Want to know something amazing?
Elizabeth’s Mama: Jackie, and I grew up one street across from each other and
grew up playing together as neighborhood friends!! How sweet and crazy is life?
I get to meet babies within just a week of them arriving into this world, seeing all the
sweetness of new life, & capturing everything about them for their families to have forever.
I’m pretty sure I have the greatest job in the world!!
Precious, and such a high honor. I love all of these images so much!
Elizabeth’s Daddy: Jesse, is a firefighter, and I adored his green Firefighter/Irish shirt.
He offered to change his shirt, and I was like “No, I love it!!” hahaha.
Thank you so much, Benton Family!!! It was a joy to capture these pictures,
and to meet your sweetest little addition to your lovely family!

    Newborn Session: Phoenix Dahlia

October 22, 2014 ~ DeLand, FL ~ Newborn Session: Phoenix Dahlia Brower

On the morning after Phoenix was born, I called my friend Emily just to check in with her. I knew she was
getting so tired of being pregnant and I thought I could drop by and see her since I was in her area.
However, plans had changed, even though I didn’t know it yet. 🙂
Me: “Hi Emily! I thought I’d call and see how you are doing!!
She whispered a soft “Hi”, and I instantly knew something was off.
Me: “Are you okay? Did I wake you up?”
Emily: “I’m holding a brand new baby girl in my arms….”
Me: “You ARE?!!!” *and then I instantly burst into tears* hahaha!
6 days later, I was honored to meet Miss Phoenix Dahlia & shoot her newborn pictures.
It was the most special, precious, tender of days and these are some of my favorite newborn pictures!

Emily knitted this adorable sweater for Phoenix, as well as the little pumpkin
(and the turban she wore earlier!), so we did a little “Fall” session.
After all, an October Baby deserves some Autumnal fun. The scent of the lemongrass hung
in the cool breeze, leaves hushed in a slight raspiness as they brushed against each other,
and an Autumn Baby slept on a blanket on the lawn.
Phoenix Dahlia, it was a joy to take your newborn photos, and hold you for the
first time that October day! It’s been a lovely thing to get to know you since then!
    I love you, sweet girl.
